My thesis topic centers around the idea of Japanese graphic designer, Kenya Hara; his focus on human senses and its importance to graphic design. Understanding how visual images can trigger other parts of the senses, Hara's works function more than two dimensional design, but a complex, sensual experience.
Can graphic design enhance its purpose as information architecture if it is more concerned with people’s sensory reception? Advanced design tools and print technology give the designers an advantage to convey a message fast and efficiently. It should also be used as a tool to nurture our human sensitivity. Human-centered design should not numb our senses, but should aid in our pursuit to think, to create, to develop.
