Inspiration/Description:

Visual Silence

Peace and quiet can be hard, if not impossible to come by in the city.  This experience has allowed me to closely examine my surroundings in search of calm happenings that would potentially go ignored by others.  These images act as a therapeutic quest to capture and preserve delicate moments between the camera and myself.  These moments collectively create a comfortable and idealized state of mind that I can only reach photographically.  Through each moment I hope to create a quiet interaction between the viewer and the images, offering a brief escape and an introduction to visual silence.

The project originally began as a study of my immediate surroundings.  I initially hoped to find familiar reminders of home and easier times.  What I instead found were moments that did not rely on prior experience or memories to induce a feeling of blissful solitude.

Future Aspirations:

After graduating from the Corcoran I plan to apply for graduate programs focusing on Art Therapy or Community Therapy.
